Kitchen Equipment Needed
- Skillet or grill for cooking burger patties
- Saucepan for making mac ‘n’ cheese
- Large bowl for mac ‘n’ cheese mixture
- Cooking utensils (spatula, spoon)
- Plates for assembling wraps
- Knife and cutting board
Step-by-Step Directions
1. Prepare the Mac ‘n’ Cheese
- Cook the macaroni according to package instructions, then drain and set aside.
- In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the flour and cook, stirring constantly, for about 1 minute to form a roux.
- Gradually whisk in the milk, ensuring there are no lumps. Continue cooking and whisking until the sauce thickens.
- Stir in the shredded cheddar and mozzarella cheeses until fully melted and smooth. Season with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
- Add the cooked macaroni to the cheese sauce and mix until well combined. Set aside.
2. Cook the Burger Patties
- Season the ground beef with salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce (if using). Divide into 4 equal portions and shape into patties.
- Heat a skillet or grill over medium-high heat. Cook the burger patties for about 4-5 minutes per side, or until they reach your desired level of doneness.
- If you prefer, add a slice of cheese on top of each patty during the last minute of cooking to melt slightly.
3. Assemble the Wraps
- Lay out a tortilla on a flat surface. Spread a tablespoon of mayonnaise or burger sauce over the center.
- Place a cooked burger patty on top of the sauce.
- Spoon a generous amount of mac ‘n’ cheese over the burger patty.
- Top with crispy bacon slices, shredded lettuce, tomato slices, and pickles (if using).
- Fold in the sides of the tortilla and then roll it up tightly from the bottom to form a wrap. Repeat with the remaining tortillas and ingredients.
4. Optional: Toast the Wraps
For a crispy exterior, you can toast the wraps. Heat a skillet over medium heat and place the wraps seam-side down. Cook for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until the tortilla is golden brown and crispy.
Notes and Tips
- Cheese Variations: Feel free to use your favorite cheeses for the mac ‘n’ cheese. Gouda, pepper jack, or even blue cheese can add unique flavors.
- Make-Ahead: You can prepare the mac ‘n’ cheese and cook the bacon ahead of time. Assemble the wraps just before serving to keep everything fresh.
- Spicy Twist: Add a dash of hot sauce or a sprinkle of cayenne pepper to the mac ‘n’ cheese for a spicy kick.
